How Long Do the Effects from HBOT Last?

By 22/12/2023No Comments

One of the most common questions people ask about HBOT is how long the effects, or benefits, last.
It depends on… It depends on the specific disease process or pathology being treated. This is not an issue of HBOT wearing off, rather the result of the persistence or progression of the disease or condition over time.

Some conditions or issues can result in permanent healing, though in other cases, occasional HBOT maintenance sessions can keep patients on track to reach their goals.

The effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can vary depending on the specific condition being treated, the number of sessions, and individual factors. HBOT involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or chamber, which can increase the amount of oxygen in the blood and promote healing.

For some acute conditions, such as certain types of non-healing wounds or carbon monoxide poisoning, the effects of HBOT may be relatively immediate. In these cases, a few sessions may be sufficient to address the problem.

In our office, there were cases of open wounds after surgery, and sometimes it would be worth performing a series of treatments, but even a few treatments in a short period of time gave results.

For chronic conditions, the effects of HBOT may be cumulative, and a series of sessions over an extended period may be needed to achieve optimal results. Conditions such as chronic wounds, certain neurological disorders, or radiation injuries may require a more prolonged and consistent treatment regimen.

It’s important to note that the long-term benefits of HBOT are still a subject of ongoing research, and its effectiveness can vary from person to person. Additionally, the underlying condition being treated will influence the duration and extent of the therapeutic effects.

The best plan that will provide support is a plan agreed individually with the therapist, based on his or her individual needs and current health condition. The treatment plan will include the number of treatments required, the frequency of treatments and the duration of each treatment.

For the best results, the client’s involvement in this process is necessary, so that all possible components are as effective as possible. We cannot expect results when the sessions are spaced apart in time and with the same intensity, when we have to mobilize ourselves in a short time and maintain the recommended frequency.

Even a drop of water can hollow out a rock. Everything takes time, but also intensity in each process.

Factors that can affect the duration of HBOT effects:

  • The individual’s age
  • The individual’s lifestyle
  • The individual’s diet
  • The individual’s smoking status
  • The individual’s other medical conditions

During HBOT, the patient lies or sits comfortably inside the chamber. The treatment typically lasts for 60 to 90 minutes.

What Are the Benefits of HBOT?

However, some of the most common benefits of HBOT include:

  • Increased healing of wounds
  • Improved circulation
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased production of new blood vessels
  • Improved oxygenation of tissues
  • Mobilization of stem cell
  • Improve immune function

Every patient in our clinic requires a consultation by a certified hyperbaric specialist to make sure that all potential contraindications have been taken into account before entering the hyperbaric chamber.
